As the climate crisis is in headlines, people are worried. On top of demanding action from governments, a lot of people are looking for ways to reduce their own impact on the environment. They are using less plastic, more public transport, eating less meat… There is also another movement on the rise: shopping secondhand.

Right now, we have a fast-fashion model, where we overproduce cheap clothing and underuse what we buy, not to mention that most of these cheap pieces are made in sweatshops – overworking employees, underpaying them, and exposing them to toxic chemicals. So secondhand shopping is GREAT if you don’t want to be a part of that.

Not only can secondhand/vintage shopping provide high-quality, cheap items (if you shop in the right places of course – I’ll add the prices of the items I purchased down below to give you examples) it’s also better for the environment as more clothes aren’t produced and shipped, and ensuring that clothes have a longer lifecycle and don’t end up in a landfill. According to United Nations Climate Change News, the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of greenhouse gas emissions, due to long supply chains and intensive production.

This is why in honor of “Secondhand September” we decided to, for the second time (click here for the first one), shoot an editorial revolving around secondhand clothes. Most of the clothes are hand-me-downs from family members, but we also have some pieces from Nost Vintage Moda (list of all items is available at the end of the article) We hope you enjoy it.
